Web3 entertainment company Toonstar is set to release a new animated television show called “Space Junk” that is backed by non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Theta blockchain. The comedy series, which is about trash collectors in space, is written by “Workaholics” producer Dominic Russo and stars “Napoleon Dynamite” actor Jon Heder and “School of Rock” actor Tony Cavalero. Fans of the show will have the opportunity to mint “Space Junk” NFTs, which will allow them to engage with the project’s intellectual property through building the show’s narrative, creating characters, and participating in token holder-only experiences.
John Attanasio, CEO and co-founder of Toonstar, said that the model of “Space Junk,” as well as other Toonstar productions, helps break down traditional creator regimes that have existed for years in Hollywood. “Our mission really is twofold – one is to create original entertainment IP using Web3 as a springboard and the other is giving opportunities to new and diverse creators that may not have had a chance to … get something made,” said Attanasio.
In addition to the use of NFTs, “Space Junk” will also incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into its content generation process. The show will feature a robot character named “Wellbecca” that is fully AI-generated and encourages fans to interact with her. “It’s really cool knowing that we have the inclusion of the audience and the community, and having a little bit more of that interaction in terms of them really putting forth ideas,” Heder said.
Toonstar gained attention in March 2022 after it released its show “The Gimmicks” alongside actress Mila Kunis, allowing token holders to help choose the direction of the show. In July, the company partnered with retailer Hot Topic to release NFT-linked merchandise for the show.
The release of “Space Junk” is expected to create new opportunities for traders and investors. The use of NFTs and AI in the show’s creation process is a testament to the growing popularity and importance of these technologies in the entertainment industry. As such, traders and investors should keep an eye on Toonstar and other Web3 entertainment companies, as they could potentially see significant growth in the future.
However, it is important to note that the market for NFTs is still relatively new and volatile. Traders should exercise caution and do their due diligence before investing in any NFT-related assets. Additionally, while the use of AI in “Space Junk” is exciting, it is still an untested technology and its long-term impact on the entertainment industry remains to be seen.
The Bottom Line
Toonstar’s upcoming release of “Space Junk” is set to shake up the entertainment industry with its use of NFTs and AI. Traders and investors should keep an eye on the company and its future endeavors. However, caution should be exercised when investing in NFT-related assets and the impact of AI on the industry remains to be seen.
